Janet is a multi-media Whitehorse artist and visual storyteller who became a full-time artist in the ‘third chapter’ of her life, after nearly four decades as a journalist and communications professional. She is best known for creating sculptural pieces with reclaimed, natural, and found objects. Her needle felted birds, animals and forest folk can be found for sale through Yukon Artists at Work and Arts Underground. Janet has had work in numerous solo and group shows in the Yukon and Alaska. She is currently preparing for an artist residency in June on board a tall ship in the Svalbard archipelago off the coast of Norway.
In this workshop, participants will make a forest gnome using various types of carded wool. No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided.
This class will be $38 per person.
Acasea Lane, our ERA program coordinator, will be teaching and assisting the Arts and Crafting Program. She is an alumna of SOVA (School of Visual Arts) in Dawson City in 2013. And has a background in working in fine arts and jewelry as well as taking fine arts courses throughout her education. ElderActive has created a new program for members who would like to learn arts and crafts and meet/socialize with fellow members. We will have rotating activities and will bring in guest art instructors where possible.
