We heard you!
You can now book for an entire series or a single event day. Of course, your best price will be for the series, but we understand that you may need or want to travel. Therefore you can now register for multiple days or the entire series.
When you click the Tickets Here on this page, a link an Eventbrite program will open up.
Join a small group for this active program, where participants improve their kicksled technique including efficient and balanced kicking, turning, braking and kicksled-supported walking. Discover new places to kicksled and return to old favourites. “Kicksledding Together” is a wonderful opportunity to get out in the Yukon wilderness with friends old and new.
Kicksleds will be provided and transported to the trailhead for participants. Weekly routes are scouted and chosen in advance based on a number of factors. Trail description and directions to the trailhead are emailed to participants the day before each outing. Locations may be up to a 40-minute drive from the city centre. Carpooling is encouraged, so sign up with a friend!
To get the most benefit out of this program, ElderActive encourages participants to register for all four sessions, but has included the option to register for individual sessions.
Participants who register for all four sessions have the most fun and best opportunity to practice and improve their kicksledding in a variety of locations and different trail conditions with an experienced kicksled leader.
One of the best parts of the kicksled itself is that it has a built-in seat, so part of our weekly adventure will include a “kick back and snack” break where we sit on our kicksled to enjoy a tea and visit.
Please come prepared for outside winter activity, wearing good winter boots and socks, and warm outerwear including a parka, toque, mitts and neck warmer, and layers to shed. Please bring a backpack with a water bottle or a thermos of tea and a snack. The program has a cold weather cut-off at -25.
Instructor Bio:
Anne Middler has been an avid kicksledder in the Yukon for 14 winters. She describes a Kicksled as “a winter recreation and active transportation tool of pure joy.” She has imported and sold Finnish kicksleds through her business Kicksled Revolution for seven winters.
Anne’s favourite thing is to share the joy of kicksledding, introduce people to this fun and low-barrier winter recreation activity, and build the kicksled community with people of all ages. Over the years, Anne has shared her enthusiasm for kicksledding at schools, youth centres, community events, wilderness locations and her kicksled shop downtown.
